Xmas Gig, Free Song on Bandcamp & Laugh in the Studio

SO....we've got a Christmas party coming on the 21st... You're all invited. Jo will be headlining (obviously!) but is joined by the lovely guys from 'The First Seven" and 'This Beautiful Thief"
It's the Wednesday before Xmas so we'll all be in the holiday spirit.... or sick already and need of a drink:-)

Jo is also finally on Bandcamp and streaming though Facebook, with her single 'Spiders' a free download so please head over hit like and grab a copy of the tune. If you'd rather have another track just pop to her website join the mailing list and drop us a line. Not only will we send you any tune you like but also a taster of the new album.....owwww, I know it's tempting :-)

Finally we thought we'd put together a little montage of the work that goes on down at the studio. You'll have to excuse the poor camera work.. give us time though, we'll have a motion picture before you know it!

Lots of xmas cheer, The Boys & Girls from LoveRock! Records

New Press Pic of Lady Jo & a mess of cable

Been a mixed week or so, we've had a fair bit of work on beginging Jo's album which is already at track 3! It's due for an early 2012 release so there may be some sneak previews soon.

The pic below is from her new press release, big thanks to Hannah Fewtrell-Bolton for the lovely Jewellery.

Studio 2 is still coming along... I have to say that this is the first studio I have fully wired and my respect levels for Jon keep increasing as when studio 1 was wired I did "sod all" and there was a lot more wiring. Anyway 2 weeks in 3 pics!

Jon's fair lady Liz making a guest apperance with the Loverock :-)

Bit a plater board and some MDF and then...

Just add equipment....and plug it in

Which is what I've been up to while the dudes rock the recording..... Hopefully all finished when we test it up tomoz.

Anyway the best way to test is to see what Lucus thinks... I told him about all the cables, if I should normal or half normal the patch bay or if we need four of five returns to live room 2. He said he's get back to me!

I want to grow up in a studio....
Alastair :-)

Videos

Over the past few weeks we've been turning our hands to the video camera and created a few videos for Joanna Briggs. We spent two days on location shooting a video for "Spiders" and there was a lot of fun had in the process. Check out the video on You Tube and let us know what you think.

We also one sunny afternoon in the studio filmed Joanna and her guitarist Tom Longworth playing some of her tracks Acoustic as well as their own rendition of "Changed The Way You Kiss Me" by Example. Check them out for a different sound to Joanna's music. There will be more to going up soon.

If your fortunate enough to have a fast internet connection don't forget to check out the videos in HD by clicking on the "360p" button and changing it to "720HD".

Joanna's Mixes

The time has arrived and after some long days in the studio we have finished mixing all 6 of Joanna's songs! Tomorrow morning we are jumping in Toms car and heading to Revolution Mastering in London to get the tracks mastered and i can't wait to hear the results and get them out for everyone to hear.

Of course though we had to make sure that our Musical Director and all round Creative Manager was happy with the mixes. He had his concerns on his first listen but after making a few tweaks himself...

... and after having another sip of his milk he was finally happy with what he was hearing.

Watch this space for Joanna's new tracks appearing on here soon,
Keep on Rocking!

Baby Loverock...

Here's a little blog about Baby Loverock's day out at the studio...
Once the little man had guzzled down his milk it was all go, with all-sorts going on and lots of new people for the little one to meet! The wonderful guys from Kiddo 360 were in, they were recording vocals on a couple of tracks with Jon in the control room, there was some DIY going on, photographs been taken and lots of tea going around.

After nap time Alastair taught little Lucas some skills on the desk, he loved looking at all the flashing lights and of course the attention from everyone in the room, all this hard work then built up an appetite for some milk and another rest.

After a long and exciting day it was time to go home and leave the big boys to it. They carried on with more recording of Kiddo 360 and band rehearsals with Joanna Briggs. What a great day but tired now and in need of more milk! See you again soon.

Joanna has also had the labels Ms imagery , Garazi do the cover and PR shots for the album which again we can't wait to see ready but here is a sneak preview of the day.

We've a fantastic graphics illustrator namely Mr Jo Buck involved in the album artwork and for all those people who are fans of the slightly darker side of illustration we can promise you won't be disappointed.

So with all the recording done it is now a push to get it all ready and cause I'm probably too excited myself here is another snippet to wet your appetite. While unmastered this is fresh of the machine today!

Loverock...

Hey! It's Tom here... This is my first blog, so I'll keep it short, sweet, informative and educational. Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who came to Joanna's first show on Thursday night, it was a great show, the band played great and we made £10 off the door. We have put this money towards a new shirt for Toby, as he seemed to take no notice to my strict dress code for Thursday's show and turned up in a Motorhead t-shirt. Adam, Sam and especially Jo, all looked extremely stylish.

Their has been much speculation over the past few months, even years, over the origin of the name Loverock. Especially in my head, where weird and wonderful things happen. So, I took it upon myself, to do a bit of a 'Tony Robinson' and do some research into the history of the name. It proved to be a gruelling exercise but ultimately a rewarding one, as you will no doubt agree! So, here it is...

The family story, according to several branches, is that Robert and Hannah were advised by the local schoolmaster in about 1800 to settle on Loverock as the spelling of their surname. Prior to that the family had been recorded with a wide variety of spellings. As far as is known, all living Loverocks are descended from this couple. Robert’s grandfather also Robert married in Staffordshire in 1715, but it is still not known from whence he came. As a result the study has been widened to include all possible spellings.

There are two contending suggestions as to the origin of the surname. Either it is derived from Leofric, Earl of Mercia, whose wife, Lady Godiva, is probably better known! Or the name could have arisen from an ancestor who was a blithe singer from the medieval word for a Lark. There is no connection with Caerlaverock Castle in Dumfries, according to the present custodian. The castle was built by the Maxwells in 1215 and was owned by them until they recently “give it to the nation”. The name of the castle means Lark’s Nest.

The Office of National Statistics database contains a list of surnames in use in England, Wales and the Isle of Man in September 2002. There are: Laverick 2542, Laverack 620, Loverock 117, Laverock 71, Leverick 37, Liverick 18 and Lavarack 17.

Interesting stuff, I'm sure you will agree!

Lastly, It looks as though we are getting close to finishing all the tracking for the album... So, it's into the mixing stage, artwork, track listing etc etc... Fun times!

Anyway, I shall leave it there, as I have to go to the post office and post some stuff... The Sun is out, so I am thinking a beer would be good. Easter is fast approaching, so get those eggs ready...

Love & Rock to all...

Tom

New Website & More Tunes!

So we finally got it together and with help from LoveRock! Records very own digital media legend Garazi our website went live this evening..... and to celebrate we've put snippets of more of Joanna Briggs new album on there.
head to

www.loverockrecords.com

There is a page of our mugshots which is quite funny as well :) All comments are welcome so let us know what you think.
In a week that saw Radiohead release what we all thought was a pretty terrible record,it gave us a real incentive to get the last bits of recording done and start finishing Joanna's album as the one thing that was missing on King Of Limb is songs, and Joanna has loads :-)

If you would like any of the songs on the website hit the mail info bar and we'd be happy to send them through.

The First taste of Joanna Briggs!

We're all really proud and pleased to introduce everyone to Joanna & her amazing voice. We started working with her around four months ago and we're sure that she's destined for big things. Her album will be out in early April and she's getting on the road in early March so watch this space and check out Jo's website for more details. We'll obviously be shouting more things Joanna (cause we think she's amazing!) as we get going but rather than try and explain here's a taster :-)

A good Day

Well today has been a very productive day. We had a great meeting with Garazi about the image ideas for the album, (in between them baby sitting!) while the lads got on with important task of finalising the mix of the Jo's second song, Spiders.

We're 8 songs in with 2 finished so once we add a third we'll be upping them here and on our soon to be finished website. We're all really looking forward to the next couple of weeks so keep an ear open and as soon as we have them ready we'd love any and all feedback.
